The Gila National Forest would like to remind Firewood Harvesters that the firewood permits are non transferable and must be in the possession of the permittee, or designated cutter while cutting, possessing or transporting firewood. Harvesters are urged to use caution when planning a trip into the forest. For safety tips and more information call 575-388-8377.


Smoking Cessation Classes

Hidalgo Medical Services will be holding three Smoking Cessation Classes in our area. The HMS Clinic in Lordsburg has begun their clinic with meetings every Monday for 8 weeks from 5:30 to 7pm. In Silver City classes will begin January 19th at the HMS Family Support Office, meetings will be held every Tuesday from 5:30 to 7pm, and Bayard will begin their classes January 26th at the Bayard Community Center and will hold classes every Tuesday from 3 to 5pm. Barron Prize for Young Heroes

Children’s Author T.J. Barron has created the “Barron Prize for Young Heroes” which honors you people ages 8 to 18 who have planned and carried out extraordinary service activities to benefit their communities and or the environment. Winners receive 25 hundred dollars to be applied to their higher education or their service project. The 2010 deadline for nominations is April 30th. Entry packets can be found at barronprize.org.
